The University of Debrecen continues to remain among the top 1000 institutions of higher education in the most recently published Times Higher Education (THE) ranking. The global ranking published on Thursday as THE World University Rankings 2026 covered nearly 2200 institutions of higher education from as many as 115 countries selected from a total of 28000 universities in the world.

This year, the Confucius Institute of the Faculty of Arts at the University of Debrecen (DE) organized the traditional Chinese Mid-Autumn Festival in Debrecen for the fifth time. On Sunday evening, October 5, musical and dance performances on a stage set up in the heart of the city center welcomed the traditional festival, which has a history of several thousand years in China.

Irish Ambassador to Hungary Ragnar Almqvist has recently visited the University of Debrecen, accompanied by his mother, Éilís Ní Dhuibhne, a distinguished representative of Irish literature. The visitors discussed the relationship between literature and diplomacy with students of the Institute of English and American Studies of the Faculty of Humanities.

The University of Debrecen has recently received a delegation from Zhangjiajie College in China. The delegation from this Far Eastern institution of higher education, which has nearly 20,000 students, a broad range of courses and as many as 52 undergraduate programs on offer, was primarily interested in our university's programs on the arts.

Rector of the University of Debrecen Zoltán Szilvássy and Dean of the College of Agricultural Sciences at Purdue University Bernard Engel have discussed the establishment of a joint food industry engineering program. The Wednesday meeting was also attended by Béla Kocsy, agricultural and food industry diplomat at the Hungarian Embassy in Washington, and Endre Harsányi, Vice Rector for Agricultural and Food Science Development.

A delegation from East China University of Technology has discussed the possibility of launching joint programs at the University of Debrecen. President Luo Xianping and his colleagues discussed the preparations with the leaders of our university and Coordinating Center for International Education, following which they also visited the two faculties involved.

The Director of Maharana Pratap College of Pharmacy in India had a chance to familiarize himself with the training system and infrastructure of the University of Debrecen and its Faculty of Pharmacy on Monday. The two institutions of higher education also signed a cooperation agreement for joint education, research and mobility.

During the first year of Pannonia Scholarship Program, the University of Debrecen registered the highest number of mobility participants nationwide, with a total of 950 students and staff members receiving scholarships to support their study trips abroad. This new scholarship program continues to offer a broad range of opportunities for members of the academic community at the University of Debrecen in the 2025/2026 academic year and, thanks to increased institutional support, the number of future participants is expected to grow further.

The most recent graduates from the Faculty of Medicine at the University of Debrecen were declared doctors on Friday. There were as many as 147 medical doctors of Hungarian and foreign nationality receiving their diplomas at the ceremony.

Count István Tisza Foundation for the University of Debrecen and the University of Debrecen recognized the work of researchers of the Faculty of Engineering of the University of Debrecen with a Publication Award for their efforts examining Newton's Law of Cooling and, among other things, further developing the statements of the physicist who lived 300 years ago through a formula that is more easily understandable than the one used so far. The researchers presented their findings in the International Journal of Heat and Mass Transfer.
